The sprawling first person action RPG from Obsidian, Avowed, is now available.
Set in the Pillars of Eternity universe (from the two excellent Pillars of Eternity CRPG games, seriously check these out if you have not), Avowed takes players on a new adventure in Eora where you choices carve a path through a world full of war, ancient mysteries, and political intrigue.
Avowed is getting pretty good reviews. While it is clear many gamers and critics were hoping this was going to be the second coming of Skyrim, many are still noting that the game delivers excellent combat and exploration backed by and absorbing fantasyt world.
Avowed boasts some impressive visuals, making full use of the power of Unreal Engine 5 and Nanite to deliver lush colorful landscapes with impressive draw distance. Thankfully, compared to most recent Unreal Engine 5 releases, Avowed has some pretty solid performance and optimization.

Do I need to play the first two Pillars of Eternity games before Avowed?
No! While Avowed does take place in the same fantasy world, Eora, as the Pillars of Eternity games, you do not need to play those games to understand what is going in Avowed. Avowed features an active glossary to use during conversations, so can dive deeper in to the lore at any time.
You should consider playing the first two games. They are traditional CRPG’s with real-time-with-pause combat that harken back to the glory days of games like Baldur’s Gate II. Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire even features a turn based mode, perfect for those that are looking to scratch that Baldur’s Gate 3 itch. Both games are excellent and well worth your time.
