Independent video game developer Ninja Theory finally announced the release date for their upcoming action game Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice in a new trailer, which you can check out below.

Set to be released on August 8, for PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows gaming PCs and laptops. The game is described as an independent AAA game that features a story based on Celtic and Norse mythology. It follows the story of a broken Celtic warrior who embarks on a haunting vision quest into the Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover.
Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is created in collaboration with neuroscientists and people who experience psychosis, so players can expect a realistic psychological warfare that will pull you deep inside into Senua’s mind.
The player must join Senua on per personal journey to the underworld that will consist of psychotic manifestations from both her own mind and her reality.
In a press release, the game’s creative director Tameem Antoniades said that Hellblade is all about their attempt to rejuvenate the space between “indie” and “AAA,” where games can be creatively rich but still possessed the qualities of an AAA game.
While according to product development manager Dominic Matthews, Hellblade will be half the size of an AAA game but will be available at half the price, giving players a unique AAA quality experience without having to spend too much.
Hellblade is now available to pre-order on Steam, GOG, and the PlayStation Store.
