Fallout is the series’ first game which was developed and published by Interplay Productions in 1997. It was described as a post-nuclear role-playing game, introducing players to a post-apocalyptic and retro-futuristic setting. The protagonist of the game is tasked to save their vault by exploring the Wasteland and finding a replacement Water Chip.
The game back then was considered the spiritual successor to the 1988 video game Wasteland and was loved by many. It became one of the best-selling computer games in 1977 and was critically acclaimed for its plot and gameplay.

Fallout 3 came out in 2008 and was the third major installment in the Fallout series. It marks the first significant shift in the series with the developers using 3D graphics and real-time combat, replacing its predecessor’s 2D isometric graphics and its turn-based combat.
The game features an open-world environment set in the ruins of Washington D.C. which is referred to as the Capital Wasteland. It was set during the year 2277, around 36 years later after the events of Fallout 2.
