Activision Blizzard has finally confirmed that a new Call of Duty game will be coming this year, probably in the last quarter. The news came as an announcement after the company had a recent call with the investors. However, Activision Blizzard didn’t announce the developer for this year’s Call of Duty game.
In Activision COO Coddy Johnson’s statement, he talked about the growth of the company and its game. This includes new experiences within the Modern Warfare universe and a new premium Call of Duty release that is already in playtests and is scheduled to be released in the Q4 of 2020.
As stated earlier, Activision didn’t release any statement about the developer of the upcoming game. The company typically revolves around choosing three developers, including Infinity Ward, Sledgehammer Games, and Treyarch, to develop each year’s Call of Duty game.
Treyarch developed the 2018’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, while Infinity Ward was the one who developed last year’s Modern Warfare. If Activision decided to go with the cycle, it also means that this year’s game will be developed by Sledgehammer Games.
However, there have been reports that Activision is eyeing a new studio to develop the new COD game. One of the studios that stood out was Raven, which was a Wisconsin-based studio that supports the Call of Duty series.
According to rumors, Activision offered Raven the lead entry to the 2020 game. But then plans changed, and the company decided to give Treyarch the 2020 Call of Duty game, with Raven and Sledgehammer Games working as support developers.
As of now, Activision hasn’t given any information about the upcoming Call of Duty game. But it is 100% possible that similar to its predecessors, the game will be released for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
