Microsoft’s Battletoads will be available to purchase for Xbox One and gaming PC via Xbox Game Pass starting August 20, 2020.
The game’s release date was first revealed last month of Xbox Wire alongside a new trailer. The video shows a bit of the game’s storyline and gameplay, bringing back Zitz, Rash, and Pimple as its protagonists.
Battletoads will follow Zitz, Razh, and Pimple’s adventure as they try to defeat the Dark Queen and her abominable allies. And as seen in the trailer, the game features a playstyle across a variety of platforming, beat them up, and racing stages.
Battletoads is developed by UK company Dlala Studios and is supported by the series creator of Rare.
The original Battletoads game was previously known for its complex playstyle. But according to its developers, this new game will give players more options on how they want to play the game. For example, the game will feature a couch co-op to let your friends help you with the levels. It will also have multiple difficulty settings to help players find the suitable complexity of the game, allowing them to choose from Tadpole all the way to Battletoads.
Battletoads will also feature a hand-animated art style, paying homage to the late 90s cartoon show with the same title.
For those who don’t remember, Battletoads is a cartoon series first released in 1992. It follows the story of three junior high school students, who are given the ability to transform into toads with superhuman strength and abilities. This allows them to morph their arms and legs into weapons called Smash Hits. They are tasked to protect Princess Angelica from the Dark Queen, who wants to steal the princess’ amulet that has the power that will help her plans to control the world.
