Ubisoft’s Remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Prince of Persia - Sands of Time

Ubisoft has confirmed the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, following the leaks that circulated around the web last month.

The remake of The Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is set for a scheduled release date on January 21, 2021. It will be launched for gaming PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One via the Epic Games Store and the Ubisoft Store on Windows and UPlay+.

Ubisoft also confirmed that there will not be a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the remake. But fans will still be able to play the game on next-gen consoles via backward compatibility.

The game will be Ubisoft’s first-ever full-scale remake, bringing the classic 2003 adventure into a new engine, the Anvil engine. It was the same engine used by the Assassin’s Creed franchise in their recent game.

Ubisoft also promises fans a fresh approach to combat, puzzle-solving, and rewinding time. Aside from that, there will be new camera angles and fully remade sequences. The developers also confirmed that fans should expect some easter egg throwback area of the original 1989 Prince of Persia game.

Ubisoft will offer a set of content for those who will preorder the Back to Origins edition. This includes access to the Original Prince outfit from the Sands of Time, the Prince’s original weapons, and a classic filter to change the game’s look and feel.

The developers also explained why they decided to remake the Sands of Time, instead of rebooting the franchise entirely. And according to them, it was a remake because they have to build everything from scratch. They also used motion capture, facial animation, and recorded all the dialogue and lines from scratch. This is the reason why they decided to call it a remake and not a remastered version.

However, Ubisoft confirmed that they have stayed true to the original story and have recreated all the levels to play. But the new design will allow new players to have a very smooth gaming experience with its combat and navigation completely reworked.
