Horror Game The Medium Launches this December

The Medium

Bloober Team has announced their upcoming psychological horror game’s release date. The Medium is set to launch for gaming PC and Xbox platforms this December 10.

The studio also announced The Medium will be available for next-gen consoles, including Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S.

The Medium will also be released on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and Microsoft Store. Preorders of the game are now available for all PC versions.

The Medium features an adventure played through a dual-reality world, the spirit world, and the real world. The player takes on Marianne’s role, a psychic medium plagued by visions who live in both worlds.

The Medium Gameplay

In the game, the player can travel in the spirit realm. To be able to travel into both worlds, the player must solve puzzles. The player can also use Marianne’s psychic abilities to fight against hostile forces. These abilities can also be recharged by interacting with energy spots that are called spirit wells.

The idea about the game first came into Bloober Team in 2012. The main goal was to create a game meant to enhance the immersion by changing the player’s traditional perspective from first to third. This was possible thanks to the Xbox Series X/S background streaming.

The Medium’s supernatural settings were designed after the dystopian surrealist artworks of Zdzisław Beksiński. According to the game’s lead designer Wojciech Piejko, Medium sends out the players’ message that there is no universal truth. For the game’s music, composers Akira Yamaoka and Arkadiusz Reikowski said they used synthesizer and analog sounds similar to Chernobyl and Stranger Things.

The Medium was initially announced for Xbox 360, Wii U, and PlayStation 3 in 2020. But due to the want of better technology, the game was further developed over time. It is now slated to be released on December 10, 2020, for Microsoft Windows PC and Xbox Series X/S.
