Riot Games Announces League of Legends MMO

League of Legends MMO

Riot Games has confirmed the development of a new MMORPG that is said to be set in the League of Legends universe. The upcoming game will be Riot’s first approach to the MMORPG genre.

The MMO game’s announcement started when Riot’s Vice President of Intellectual Property and Entertainment, Greg Street, tweeted that he was looking for talents to help with a new project that will develop the League of Legends universe. And when asked by fans if the game was an MMO, Greg Street confirmed on Twitter that the new project will indeed be an MMO.

According to few journalists, it wasn’t normal that a major League of Legends project isn’t typically announced on a personal Twitter account. However, it makes sense, especially as the studio is working hard in recent years to expand the League of Legends universe.

Two years ago, Riot released a card game based on the League of Legends universe called Legends of Runeterra. They also released a free-to-play tactical multiplayer shooter game for Microsoft Windows gaming PC called Valorant.

Riot also formed a new team called Riot Forge. In this publishing initiative, Riot can work with outside developers to create games and other projects set in the League of Legends universe. One of its upcoming games is Ruined King, which is a turn-based RPG that is coming to PC and consoles in 2021. It will feature selected League of Legends champions, including Miss Fortune, Ahri, Illaoi, Pyke, Braum, and Yasuo.

There is also another game that Riot is currently developing for years, which is said to be a fighting game. Aside from that, Riot is also working on a League of Legends animated TV series called Arcane. And for sure, these aren’t only the projects they have in mind. And it might not take too long before they announced the game titles and their gameplay.
