Falling Frontier

For the past half-decade, the science fiction strategy game genre has been dominated by Paradox Interactive’s Stellaris. While there have been many game studios that have tried to vie for the throne that Stellaris sits comfortably on—or at least get a small piece of the pie, there hasn’t really been anything that comes close. Until now.
Developers, Stutter Fox Studios, has been busy toiling away on their own science fiction real-time strategy game called Falling Frontier, and it looks incredibly promising thus far. Its UI is clean yet sophisticated and its visuals are out of this world (couldn’t help the pun) to say the least.
Also, one of the things that separate Falling Frontier is its sense of scale—when you see the game’s various spaceships maneuvering around each other in battles, they move very slowly and tactically, just like all of the famous spaceship battles you’ve seen in the best science fiction movies. Simply put, everything looks epic!
Publisher Hooded Horse announced that Falling Frontier will feature a single player campaign set in the game’s Solar System and beyond. The player will lead the forces of Saturn’s moon Titan, one of many playable factions in Falling Frontier. The campaign follows Titan’s struggle for continued independence against domination by Mars.
The campaign is named “Titan Rising,” and Stutter Fox Studios has published a campaign reveal trailer.
“Mars is the dominant military power,” said Todd D’Arcy, CEO of Stutter Fox Studios. “The player must use all the mechanics Falling Frontier makes available to wage asymmetric warfare. Raiding supply lines, laying in ambush behind planets, destroying recon stations—intel and logistics are the keys to preserving Titan’s independence. The events the player will experience in this war lead directly to the first human expansion beyond our own Solar System.
“Titan Rising is the first of many campaigns,” said Tim Bender, CEO of Hooded Horse. “This is the campaign that bridges the gap between Falling Frontier’s procedurally generated star systems and our own history here in the Solar System. Of course, this campaign is told from Titan’s perspective—and we may revisit these events from a different faction’s point of view in later campaigns.”
In Falling Frontier players explore vast star systems filled with planets, moons, asteroid fields, and nebulae. The game includes a detailed intel system, complete with recon stations, scout ships, and probes, each presenting trade-offs in the choice between active and passive scanning modes. There is no global resource system, and instead all raw materials and supplies must be delivered where needed. The logistics system extends to resupply of combat ships, and a strike force that neglects to protect its supply lines or is cut off in enemy territory may find itself without adequate ammunition for defense or fuel to escape, or, at the extreme, with a crew slowly starving in the void of space.
Falling Frontier will release in late 2021 for PC and is available to be wishlisted on Steam.
