Bethesda Confirms, “Fallout 4 Will Have No Level Cap and No Hard Ending”

Fallout 4Following on the heels of the announcement trailer released earlier this June, Bethesda gave us a great heaping eyeful of Fallout 4 at the recent E3 conference. Fallout 4 begins before the apocalypse, and we’ll be playing as the sole survivor of Vault 111. An upgraded Pip-boy was also seen which allows you to play mini-games on it. But this doesn’t end the surprises Bethesda has in store for us because they just announced on Twitter that PC, XboxOne and PlayStation 4 owners can essentially play Fallout4 forever if they desire.

“To fans who’ve asked: Fallout 4 doesn’t end when the main story is and over and there is no level cap,” Bethesda tweeted. “You can keep playing and leveling.”

So get all those gaming consoles and gaming PCs all geared up because you can continue leveling up and exploring the game after wrapping up the main campaign. How cool is that? This is a big change for RPGs, which typically come with a set maximum level cap. This will give gamers the opportunity to complete all the remaining side quests, and can continue to build and defend their own in-game communities using the construction tools provided in the game play. Given such changes, gamers can be at ease that Bethesda won’t pull another game ending closer like Fallout 3.

For now, Fallout 4’s leveling system itself is a bit divergent. Instead of tying perks to the character’s level, Bethesda has instead introduced a system that awards S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats for a more personalized character progression.

“You have this Vault Tech poster with all of your perks, and there is a separate perk for each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and each value of that S.P.E.C.I.A.L. from 1 to 10,” Creative Director, Todd Howard said in the Game Informer. “Each perk, except for a few exceptions, has multiple ranks. We have combined the previous skill system into this as well. If there are 70 base perks and you add all of the ranks, you’re getting around 275 of those. We’ve found that this gets us some really cool different play styles. It’s a very very cool and fun leveling system in the game.”

Though the mechanics and gameplay of the fourth installment remains a mystery to us, we’re sure everyone can’t wait to play Fallout 4 and try its new features, which include the personalized power armor, customizable settlement and an incredibly expanded crafting system. Fallout 4 will launch for PC, PS4 and Xbox One on November 10.
