After the release of its new hero, Ama Amari, Overwatch has finally revealed its first post-launch map. During Gamescom 2016, Blizzard has unveiled its new castle map called Eichenwalde.
Eichenwalde is an abandoned village located outside of Stuttgart, Germany, and features an old medieval castle. It is an Assault/Escort hybrid map where the first team will be tasked to lead a battering ram to Eichenwalde Castle and redeem the remains of Balderich von Alder, the leader of the Crusaders. The opposing team, on the other hand, is tasked to defend the castle.

Like other Overwatch map, Eichenwalde has its place in the game’s lore. Let’s look at the map’s official description:
“The site of one of the most famous battles during the Omnic Crisis, it was here that the leader of the Crusaders, Balderich von Alder, and a handful of his best soldiers made a last stand against an advancing automaton army. Outnumbered and outgunned, they were ultimately slain during the resulting combat. However, thanks to their valiant efforts, the German military was able to push back the omnic offensive and win the fight.”
Blizzard also confirmed that Eichenwalde is the birthplace of Bastion. Reinhardt also described the place as “a tomb” in his new sound files added in the game. The main feature of the map involves the body of Balderich von Alder. Like Reinhardt, Balderich was a crusader who died in a major battle at Eichenwalde. His death led to the Germans victory over the Omnics, and he was considered a hero. His remains were left on the throne of Eichenwalde Castle, and was later called the tomb of the “Fallen King.”
The new map is scheduled to be released in September, so better get your gaming PC ready. Aside from this, you should also check out Overwatch new animated short film, “The Last Bastion“.
