Bethesda Softworks surprised everyone by revealing a teaser of the newest Fallout game, Fallout 76. The teaser trailer was shown during a live stream on May 30, featuring what seems to be the protagonist of the story and the game’s setting.
The trailer shows us the inside of Vault 76, and a character who is wearing a vault jumpsuit and equipped with a Pip-Boy. We also get to see an old TV with footage informing occupants to rebuild the society that was lost in the Great War. The video also shows a decorated field inside the Vault for something called Reclamation Day, and a console showing the date 2102, which makes Fallout 76 the earliest game set in the Fallout canon.

For fans of the game, Vault 76 has been mentioned in the past games but was never seen. For example, Vault 76 was listed on the Vault-Tec computer terminal found in The Citadel in Fallout 3 and was also named during an audio log in the Mothership Zeta add-on. It was also mentioned by the news announcer during the intro of Fallout 4.
In the Fallout canon, Vault 76 was opened in 2076 to celebrate the 300th birthday of the United States. According to the Citadel computer, it was supposed to be a “control” vault housing 500 people. As we know, the majority of the vaults in Fallout were secretly running experiments on their inhabitants, but 17 were just “control vaults.” But that doesn’t necessarily mean that they are safe from everything.
With this game being introduced in the Fallout Universe, we’re excited to see and witness the story behind Vault 76.
Aside from the trailer, no further information was revealed by Bethesda. However, they confirmed that the game will be released for PS4, XBox One, as well as gaming PCs and gaming laptops. But rumors are saying that the game will be an online survival RPG, describing it as something similar to DayZ and Rust. According to Kotaku though, Fallout 76 will still feature a central story and quests but will include additional “survival-based and multiplayer mechanics.” It is also possible that the game will feature base-building.
Just before the trailer was shown, the stream showed Bethesda’s Todd Howard discussed the trailer video being only a tease and that more details will be revealed soon. This game is the second big announcement from Bethesda, following the news on the Rage 2. Bethesda’s E3 press conference is set for June 10.
