Blizzard Entertainment and its subsidiary with Activision, Vicarious Visions, has finally announced Diablo 2 Resurrected. It is the long-rumored remastered version of the classic action-RPG that was released in 2000. Diablo 2 Resurrected is set to be released this 2021 for gaming pc, PS4, Xbox One, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
Diablo 2 Resurrected will feature all the content in Diablo’s Lord of Destruction Expansion Pack, including the Assassin and Druid player classes. The game was announced during BlizzCon 2021 or BlizzCOnline, which serves as a virtual celebration of the company’s games and community. As we all know, BlizzCon was canceled last year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Diablo franchise executive producer Rod Fergusson, 2021 is the best time to bring back Diablo 2 to celebrate last year’s 20th anniversary of Diablo 2. He also clearly stated that Diablo 2 Resurrected is not a remaster of the game but a remake. The developers made a modern 3D layer on top of the old game, which will deliver new features. These features include upgraded visuals and sound, particle-based rendering, and dynamic lights.
Diablo 2 Resurrected will run at 4K and 60 FPS on pc, PS5, and Xbox Series X. It will also support gamepads and ultra-wide monitors. For Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch, the game will run at lower resolutions. Blizzard also added that cross-progression will be supported on any platforms that the user chooses to enable the game.
The original Diablo 2 was presented at 800 x 600 resolutions. Like Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Diablo 2 Resurrected will allow players to switch back and forth between the original game and the remastered one. But, Blizzard and Vicarious have entirely remake every minute of its visual cinematics when it comes to its cinematics.
According to Blizzard, a technical alpha test for Diablo 2 Resurrected is planned to be released soon for PC only. Sign-ups for the game will also be added on Diablo’s official website, and testers will randomly be chosen.
