Big-time video game company Blizzard has announced its plans to expand the Overwatch universe by releasing a young adult fiction novel. The novel is titled “The Hero of Numbani,” which focuses on the story of Efi Oladele and her robot Orisa.
Efi is a non-playable character in the game but represents an important role in the Overwatch lore. The eleven-year-old robotics expert was the one who created Orisa after Doomfist’s attack on Numbani’s OR15 security.
The Hero of Numbani seeks to tell Efi’s backstory and her struggles on developing Orisa. The novel will also explore the technologically advanced city of Numbani, which is fictionally located in Africa. In this place, humans live in harmony with the omnics until Doomfist tried to shatter the unity with a terrorist attack.
To stop Doomfist, Efi engineered and created an intelligent and compassionate robot that she called Orisa. Although the robot still has a lot to learn, the robot alongside Efi is determined to defeat Doomfist and his rallying forces. But will Efi be able to mold Orisa into the hero Numbani needs?
Aside from Orisa and Doomfist, Lucio will also appear in the book, making her the third playable hero to be included in the novel.
The Hero of Numbani was written by Nicky Drayden with the help of the game’s developers. It is scheduled to be published in May 2020.
