Capcom revealed and confirmed that Resident Evil: Project Resistance is not officially canon. This is despite the fact that Project Resistance is included in the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake.
According to Resident Evil 3’s producer Peter Fabiano, the events within Project Resistance’s 4-versus-1 multiplayer mode makes it impossible to fit in the actual timeline. Thus, Project Resistance only serves as a fun online experience that shares connections to the original RE universe, which includes characters like the Mastermind.
Fabiano also confirmed that Project Resistance and Resident Evil 3 share thematic ties of characters trying to escape a zombie-infested city. For that, Capcom decided to bundle the two games together.
Following the teasers, Project Resistance was officially unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show last September. As revealed, the game features an asymmetrical multiplayer mode that focuses on four players trying to survive and escape from a player-controlled Mastermind.
Resident Evil 3 and Project Resistance will be both released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows gaming PC on April 3, 2020.
