Once in awhile, we all like to travel back time and install classic games on our PC or gaming laptop. We love to experience its gameplay again and feel the excitement we once felt over it. And for me, one of the best classic video games genres is RTS. Here are six of the best classic strategy games on my list:
Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
Red Alert 2 is the follow-up game of Command & Conquer: Red Alert and picks up after the events of the Allied campaign of the first game. It introduces two playable factions, the Soviets, and the Allies. The goal is to defeat all opposing forces in the map, capture and destroy your enemies’ structures.
Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty
Wings of Liberty is a military science-fiction game from Blizzard Entertainment for Microsoft Windows PCs and gaming laptops. It is the sequel to the award-winning game Starcraft and an expansion pack for the Heart of the Swarm. The game revolves around three species: the Zerg, the Protoss, and the Terrans.
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
Reign of Chaos is the third strategy game set in the fictional fantasy world of Warcraft. It is the sequel to Blizzard’s game “Warcraft: Orcs & Humans.” Aside from the Orcs and Humans, two new playable races are included in the game: the Night Elves and the Undead. Similar to other RTS games, the goal of Warcraft is to defeat the enemy team by destroying their defense and base.
Company of Heroes
Company of Heroes is a 2006 RTS video game which is developed by Relic Entertainment. It is set during the Second World War and introduces two playable factions. The game aims to make its players capture strategic resource sectors located around the map for them to be able to build structures, produce new units, and to eventually defeat their enemies.
Rome: Total War
Rome: Total War is a strategy game by The Creative Assembly. It is the third title in the Total War series. The game is set during the late Roman Republic around 270 BC, where the player takes control of one of the three powerful Roman families. Its gameplay features real-time tactical battles which are framed within a turn-based strategic campaign.
Age of Empires
Age of Empires was first released in 1997 and was one of the first historical strategy games that became popular. It lets players choose from one of the twelve civilizations to develop from Stone Age to the Iron Age. It was greatly praised by the critics and has sold more than 300 million units by 2000.
