Vampyr, the goth-vampire RPG from Life is Strange developer Dontnod, finally has a release date. The game is confirmed to be released on June 5 for Microsoft gaming PCs, Xbox One, and Sony PlayStation 4.

The news was revealed in the final episode of their Dontnod’s web series titled Vampyr – Stories from the Dark.

In a video posted on Twitter, the developers discussed the approach they did to the game’s storytelling. They want to create an immersive and atmospheric environment where the players can truly embody the character. Along with its unique moral-based gameplay, Vampyr also features exploration, investigations, citizen encounters, and stunning combat scenes to boast.

The last episode of the web series also tackled the importance of the gameplay and the actor’s performance in bringing the protagonist’s character to life. These were certain matters that played a significant role in pulling off the morally ambiguous plot of the game.

“A vampire is a monster that knows exactly what it is and relies on deception to embrace its true nature… it’s not simply a brainless killing machine,” the game’s narrative director Stephane Beauverger once said in an interview with IGN. “And because it is intelligent, it sometimes suffers emotionally as a result.”

As we all know it, Vampyr follows the story of Dr. Jonathan Reid, a medical doctor who has turned into a vampire. It revolves around his struggles with his condition and how he deals with his newfound bloodthirsty nature. All this while trying to keep his Hippocratic Oath. The game allows the player the choice to kill or not. It is set in 1918 London during the Spanish flu pandemic.

The game was supposed to be released last November 2017, but a technical issue was delayed. That is why it was rescheduled to be released during the first half of 2018. And now that it has an exact release date, its publisher Focus Home Interactive hopes that the game can become a success.
