Bethesda and id Software announced a single-player campaign expansion for Doom Eternal.

The id Software team revealed that the expansion will be called The Ancient Gods. According to the developers, the story will be split into parts, with the first part being announced last August 27 at Gamescom 2020 as part of Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live.

As revealed, The Ancient Gods will feature a story that revolves around an imbalance of power in heaven. And how the Doom Slayer will fit into that problem by annihilating and tearing apart the demons.

Aside from the single-player expansion, id Software is also working on updates for the multiplayer side of things. One of these updates includes a ranked competitive mode as well as other additions.

Doom Eternal is an FPS shooter video game released for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. It is set following the events of the 2016 game. It once again focuses on the story of Doom Slayer as he is tasked on a mission to end Hell’s consumption of Earth. To do this, he must foil the alien Maykyr’s plans to exterminate humanity.

The game focuses on its predecessor’s emphasis on push forward combat, which encourages the player to aggressively engage enemies to acquire health, ammo, and armor.

Aside from its single-player campaign expansion, Bethesda also announced that Doom Eternal and The Elder Scrolls Online will be released on next-gen consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. For those who own the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade to the matching new version all at no cost.

However, Bethesda did not reveal a release date for the next-gen ports of the games. They did confirm though that more information will be released in the coming weeks and months.
