EA, along with Motive Studios, has finally revealed their new Star Wars entry, a first-person spaceship-fighting game called Star Wars: Squadrons. The game will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and gaming PC on October 2.
Star Wars: Squadrons takes place after Return of the Jedi. According to its developers, it will feature a single-player mode and multiplayer mode. It will also be available to play in VR on PS4 and PC, and will also enable crossplay across all platforms.
The game’s single-mode will revolve around the story that takes place after the destruction of the Death Star II. It features the story of two pilots from different sides. The first pilot serves the New Republic and flies for the Vanguard Squadron. While the second pilot comes from the Galactic Empire and flies for the Titan Squadron.
According to Motive Studios, Star Wars: Squadron will introduce new characters as well as cameos of our beloved characters from the Star Wars series.
On the other hand, its multiplayer mode is said to feature a combat system that puts together two teams, each with five players. It will feature two gaming modes, namely Fleet Battles and Dogfights.
In Fleet Battles, each team must destroy the flagship of the enemy team to win. In Dogfights, the teams are simply asked to kill off as many opponents as possible.
EA also confirmed that there will be multiple ship classes for players to experiment with. There will also be cosmetics and battleship customizations that players can earn solely by playing the game modes. These include rewards such as weapons, engines, hulls, and shields to tweak your starfighter.
Star Wars: Squadrons is scheduled to be released on October 2, and will be available both as physical and digital products for $39.99. The game will also be available for users subscribed to EA Access and Origin Access Basic.
