If you follow our social media or regularly check our blogs and website, you’ve probably noticed that we’ve updated our FANGbook EVO HX7 series with the brand new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 800M series graphics cards. The FANGbook has been a very successful product line for us and keeping it up to date with the latest and greatest hardware means it will always be a good choice as an affordable high-end gaming notebook.
We wanted to take a moment and walk you through some of the features and specifications of the new FANGbook EVO HX7 series so you know exactly what you can expect if you decide on it as your next gaming notebook.
This is a gaming notebook, and as you might expect, it looks like one. This updated FANGbook sports the same aggressive “FANG” industrial design as its predecessors. The grey cover with sharp lines, accented by illuminated CYBERPOWERPC livery is going to make a fashion statement if you choose to bring your FANGbook out in public.
Opening the lid reveals a 1080p Full HD display with anti-glare technology. This LED backlit display produces vibrant colors and crisp image quality in any environment. Positioned just above the display is the HD webcam that captures 720p at 30fps and 3.0 megapixel stills – which is pretty impressive for a notebook camera.
The full-size gaming keyboard on the FANGbook features 102 keys that are backlit by red LED lights. Playing games in the dark can be a daunting task when you can’t see what keys your fingers are pressing, so the backlight helps immensely in dark environments. The keys are spaced out ideally for gamers who use the WASD input style and, thankfully, the Windows key has been relocated to the right side of the keyboard avoid accidental presses.
Above the keyboard are a series of touch sensitive system-function buttons that allow you to do things like put the cooling fan into overdrive mode, turn the keyboard backlighting and display on and off, and eject the optical drive – there’s even an airplane mode button that turns all wireless connectivity off for when the flight attendant bugs you. In the center of this panel is the triangular power button, and large, high-fidelity, blue LED accented speakers flank it to either side.
Below the keyboard is the multi-touch, gesture-enabled trackpad which is also accented by a blue LED light strip and works seamlessly with the Windows 8.1 gesture-oriented user interface. The trackpad is mounted off-center to avoid annoying accidental palm activations, and the physical left and right-click buttons also provide the tactile feedback from clicking that most people desire.
On the front of the chassis are 5 indicator LEDs representing Bluetooth, WiFi, Battery/AC power status, sleep state, and hard drive activity.
Turning the notebook to the left reveals two USB 2.0 ports and the optical drive, which can be upgraded from the standard DVD+-RW drive to one that reads and writes Blu-ray media. Display outputs galore, including VGA, HDMI, and mini DisplayPort, along with the RJ-45 Ethernet jack that connects to the Killer Ethernet controller, the DC power plug, and support for a Kensington lock adorn the back side of the FANGbook EVO HX7.
Finally on the right side you’ll find 3 high-speed USB 3.0 ports, an SD card reader (supports both SDHC and SDXC formats), and 4 audio ports including one line-in and line-out, and your standard 3.5mm headphone and microphone ports. The right side of the notebook also features one of several exhaust vents that help to keep the notebook cool even under extremely heavy gaming loads – but we’ll get more into that later.
The underbelly of the FANGbook veils the insane hardware inside but also gives it the chance to breathe. Several vent areas allow air to circulate around the hard drives, memory, CPU and GPU. The subwoofer, which puts a cap on the high-definition 2.1 channel speaker system, and the removable 9-cell Lithium Ion battery are also visible.
Removing the main panel reveals the impressive internals of the FANGbook EVO HX7. Dominating the real estate are the massive heat exchangers for the 4th Generation Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 800M series graphics card. Copper heat pipes winding through the chassis aid in the transfer of heat from the components to the convection heatsinks mounted in the corner, and the single fan pushes air across both sets of fins to cool everything down.
Two of the four memory DIMMs are located next to the CPU (the other two are underneath the keyboard), while one hard drive (or SSD) is positioned below the memory and the other next to the graphics card.
The entire FANGbook package has been designed with ease of use and peak performance in mind. The notebook stays cool under heavy gaming loads thanks to the generous heatsink, and the numerous upgrade options let you configure your FANGbook whichever way to achieve the performance level you desire.
he addition of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 800M series of graphics cards to the FANGbook lineup simply increases the power of this already formidable gaming laptop.
