Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition Review

Admittedly, I once looked down my nose at the Farming Simulator titles. I thought to myself: “Farming in real life can be hard work that is fulfilling, but who would want to emulate that through a video game?” I did enjoy American Truck Simulator, which is basically about hauling stuff from point A to point B. But at least you get to drive across through different states and see different sights.

Well, the fact that the latest one has a big old “19” on it means that there must be some sort of demand for these games since their developer, Giants Software, keep pumpin’ them out. I also noticed the “Overwhelmingly Positive” review rating on Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition‘s Steam page, with lots of ranting and raving about how great it is. So, I decided to dive in.

In Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition you are a farmer who has to run their own farm. How you do that is totally up to you. I chose to immerse myself in the game’s six-part tutorial to dip my toes into the fertilizer, so to speak. The tutorial is quite helpful, by the way, and along with the game’s clean-looking user interface, makes its game mechanics relatively easy to pick up.

Farming consists of picking the right vehicle, choosing a plot of land to farm, driving back and forth over it to sow seeds, and waiting to harvest the resultant crops. You also have to use plant spray to protect your crops and specialized equipment to destroy weeds before the can harm your poor defenseless crops.

Frankly, there’s an astounding amount of detail that goes into this entire process and you’ll want to carefully go over all of your available equipment and what types of jobs they’re suited for, as well as manage your fuel for each vehicle you utilize (regular refills required).

So you might be wondering what the point of Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition is—why to make lots of money of course! Generally speaking, you want to be taking in more than you’re putting out in terms of the crops you produce and the money you receive for them. There are many ways to complete the various tasks you’ll be presented with, so things never got as repetitive as I initially thought they would. What’s more, is that you can even hire NPC staff members who will help you out with your farming duties and their AI is pretty darn good.

The Platinum Edition of Farming Simulator 19 comes with over 35 vehicles and equipment from the CLAAS product range. These include the following vehicles and equipment: ARION 660-610, AXION 870-800, AXION 960-920, XERION 5000-4000, TUCANO 580, JAGUAR 960 TT, CARGOS 760, ROLLANT 455, DISCO 1100 C, DISCO 3600 FC, and more.

I would recommend this game with the expansions if you are willing to put in the time and dedication to yield results. And, you are patient enough to see watch your crops grow (it doesn’t happen overnight). If you are more of a fast-paced person who needs constant stimulations, then this game really isn’t for you.

Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition’s visuals are really good. The vehicles are highly detailed and the natural farm-y environments look realistic enough. What I like most about this game is that while you’re driving a tractor or other vehicle over your fields, you almost get this Zen-like vibe that is really relaxing. It’s a drastic departure from driving on a bunch of big-city freeways, I’ll tell you that much!

I’d recommend this game to farming enthusiasts or anyone curious about a simulation game that comes with a lot of work (and time commitment), and that truly captures the farming experience within the comfort of your own home. Try it out for yourself.

RATING: 8.2/10

Farming Simulator 19 Platinum Edition has some pretty good looking graphics that make its farming gameplay truly shine. However, you want to have a pretty beefy gaming PC or gaming laptop in order to play it at a decent framerate. So, you may just want to invest in a decent gaming rig:
