Final Fantasy VI Remake Released on PC Next Week via Steam

While the world gushes over Final Fantasy VII Remake after the trailer was just released, Square Enix has another remake it’s preparing to launch. Final Fantasy VI will be released on PC via Steam on December 16.

First released in April 2, 1994, the game was published by Square and it was launched for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System—making it the sixth title in the mainline Final Fantasy series. This game’s story is set in a fantasy world with a technology level equivalent to that of the Second Industrial Revolution, and focuses on a group of rebels as they seek to overthrow an imperial dictatorship.

Later in 1999, the game was ported to the PlayStation One then Game Boy Advance in 2006 and lastly was ported to the Wii’s Virtual Console in 2011. It became a PSone Classic in 2011 as well and it was remade first for the mobile platforms.

And just this December 10, SquareEnix has announced that the “Final Fantasy VI Remake” mobile version will now be heading to the PC via Steam as according to IGN. The game will be released this coming Dec. 16 on Steam and goes with the port of the mobile version of “Final Fantasy V” on Steam last September.

The key features of the game are the “painstakingly recreated graphics,” by veteran character designer Kazuko Shibuya, better controls and active-time battle system and the PC version has Steam achievements and Trading cards, according to Siliconera.

The Steam release will include updated controls, an active-time battle system optimized for PC, achievements, and trading cards. No word on pricing as of yet, but the mobile version runs $16.

Released on December 16th via Steam you may want to give this version a wide berth. Aside from FFVI, Guilty Gear Xrd Sign was released on December 9, so you pretty much need to get those gaming pc console all geared up.
