Glitchpunk Release

New dystopian game, Glitchpunk, is a “top-down” view sci-fi action game from Dark Lord and was inspired by Rockstar’s classic, Grand Theft Auto 2 (GTA 2). The game is set in a Cyberpunk-like dystopian future and boasts high-octane gameplay that lets players brawl, shoot and drive their way around as a glitched-out android bounty hunter.

Publisher, Daedalic Entertainment, announced that Glitchpunk will launch as an Early Access title on Steam and infuses the nostalgia of old-school classics with their own perspective on the issues of our world and future.

What is the official Glitchpunk release date?

The game launched into Early Access on August the 11th 2021. Glitchpunk launched exclusively on Windows PC and can be picked up via the Steam Store. The publishers have noted that they are “pretty confident about the current state of development” and endeavor to release the polished version of the game “within 6 to 8 months”.

This means that the retail version of the game should hit the shelves early next year. Pricing for the retail copy may also be different from the Early Access copy.

“We evaluate the pricing regularly as the game gains features, expands in scope, and moves to beta and release phases,” the publishers noted.

Glitchpunk: Gameplay

Okay, so Glitchpunk’s gameplay is reminiscent of the old GTA 2 “top-down” style but features explosive action and Cyberpunk-like aesthetics. It’s best described as an old-school classic with a modern-day twist. If you’re a fan of the GTA franchise then you’ll love this.

“Run, hack, steal, drive, shoot and blast your way through the criminal underworld of the future. Make some friends [and] make even more enemies. Kill or be killed, even if it means killing everything you love” – Glitchpunk on Steam.

Glitchpunk will have players journey in a dystopian world filled with sex, drugs, and guns. You will play as a glitched-out android and attempt to destabilize the tyrannical government of a post-nuclear era in order to craft your own agenda.

Cause anarchy in Glitchpunk

Much like the famous GTA franchise, you will be poised to choose your own future. You can also purchase upgrades to enhance your weapons or abilities (like hacking) that allow you to better manipulate your surroundings or other people.

Yes, you read that right – you will be able to hack the minds of bystanders!

Glitchpunk also captures GTA’s 6-star criminal “wanted” system and replaces it with a 10-star criminal escalation system for some frantic police chases that will challenge even the most skilled criminals. There are many different ways of locomotion, including trains, tanks, motorbikes, buses, trucks, and obviously tons of cars. There are also 12 different gangs with their own stories, quests, and culture/

Want a change of scenery? Travel to any of 4 different cities, from the desert remains of the USA to a cyberpunk of Soviet Russia in a post-nuclear winter. The game has a mature story with several endings and a rare art style mix of 2D sprites in a 3D environment.

Glitchpunk features In-game radio with music by artists from all over the world, together with news stations and absurd commercials

The developers indicate that the Early Access version of the game has only launched with one city (Outpost Texas). City two (New Baltia) will follow after four weeks, cities three and four (Moscow and Neo Tokyo) will be added during the Early Access period.
