Boss Key Productions, the developer of LawBreakers, reveals their new project called Radical Heights. It’s a free battle-royale shooter game that gives off a distinct 1980s-inspired flair and combines it with live game show elements.
In Radical Heights, players are dropped into a large domed community located in Southern California, where they must shoot others to survive. But aside from the usual, the game adds a twist by providing the players a variety of vehicles and weapons such as BMX bikes, inflatable decoys, and confetti bombs. You can also earn cash during matches, giving you an option to acquire items other than scavenging. The in-game cash is also used to buy cosmetics and various upgrades which the player can use to his next match. To collect some money, the player can shoot arcade machines, play random spin wheels, or access offshore accounts using ATMs.
The developer hopes that Radical Heights stand-out from the crowded Battle Royale space with its “X-Treme” 2023 game show style. According to Boss Key Productions, the game features “some really unique twists” that they have always wanted to put in the Battle Royale genre.
“We’re huge fans of Battle Royale games along with the bright, inviting irreverence of the 80’s aesthetic,” said the game’s Creative Director Zach Lowery. “We want to put our own spin on the genre and create a futuristic 80’s world which takes place in 2023 during an over-the-top game show where contestants battle it out for fame and prizes.”
Radical Heights was released on April 10 for Microsoft Windows gaming PCs and gaming laptops. It is currently in its Early Access and will stay so in a year, to give time for the developers to solidify the game. Boss Key Productions also said that the time will enable them to develop a solid understanding of what works and what doesn’t.
The game is now available to download on Steam. Its Steam page also offers a Founder’s Pack that contains cosmetic items. Additional in-game microtransactions will follow soon.
