Irelia was first introduced in 2009, a year after League of Legends was released in public, making her one of the oldest champions in the game. In the battlefields of Summoner’s Rift, Irelia served as durable champion that can deliver high damage to her opponents. However, with new champions and updates coming into the game, Irelia’s old skill kit couldn’t just continue to catch up. But at last, after months of speculations, Riot has finally given the right attention to Irelia and gave her a champion update.
Let’s check it out:

ABILITIES
PASSIVE – Ionian Fervor
Hitting enemies with spells will grant Irelia stacks of Ionian Fervor for a few seconds. By hitting multiple champions, this ability also gives Irelia multiple stacks, while her basic attack extends the duration of her passive. Each of the stacks will add bonus magic damage to Irelia’s basic attacks. At max stacks, her bonus damage increased against shields, and she also gains attack speed.
Q – Bladesurge
Bladesurge causes Irelia to dash to the target, dealing physical damage, and applying on-hit effects, while healing for a small amount. If her target is marked or dies to Bladesurge, this skill cooldown is refreshed.
W – Defiant Dance
Defiant Dance, when first cast, will cause Irelia to charge her blades, losing the ability to attack or move, but gains significant damage reduction for a short period. Its channel can’t be interrupted.
On its second cast, Irelia will lashes out her blades, dealing physical damage in a line. The damage increases as Irelia charges.
E – Flawless Duet
Flawless Duet, when activated, will cause Irelia to send a blade to a location and can recast Flawless Duet to send the second blade to another location. The blades will then fly towards one another, dealing magic damage and stunning enemies that are caught in the crossfire. Flawless Duet can also be used to mark champions and large monsters for a few seconds.
R – Vanguard’s Edge
Vanguard’s Edge is Irelia’s ultimate skill. She unleashes the full force of her blades in a line. If her blades hit an enemy champion, the blades will radiate outward and deal damage, forming a barrier that lasts for a few seconds. The blade wall deals magic damage and significantly slows enemy champions that pass through it. The barrier can also disarm the champions for a few seconds, making them unable to basic attack.
