Riot Games has announced a new experimental game mode in League of Legends called Nexus Blitz. It will be one of the firsts in the list of Experimental Modes, a community-driven method of testing Riot created to develop and introduce new game modes to the players and decide if they are worth adding into the game permanently.

With that being said, Nexus Blitz will be different from event game modes like Ultra Rapid Fire (URF), Doom Bots, and One For All. It is also designed to give a new gameplay experience to the players different from Summoner’s Rift, ARAM, and Twisted Treeline. And if Nexus Blitz is found to be successful and players love it, the game mode might stay in the game for good.

So what does Nexus Blitz offer?

Nexus Blitz is a fast-paced game mode designed for players who are looking for new and exciting gameplay. The map as described Riot’s Michael “SpaceNorth” Chu, “emphasizes on exciting and surprising moments over the intense competition.”

In Nexus Blitz, each of the two teams consists of a duo jungle which is strategically placed close to three laners. The map also features a set of new, unexpected events to amplify the gaming experience of the players even more. Some of these events include mayhem-inducing scenarios that will kick-off every few minutes, which grants rewards to the team that wins. There will also be some events that are drawn from familiar game experiences, but many will come unexpectedly.

Winning these events on Nexus Blitz will give your team rewards or boosts, which includes a massive shield, a base cannon that can launch you and your teammates or armors for your minions, and Blitzcrank hooks to your turrets. The list goes on and on, and Riot also encourages players to suggest ideas to add to the map.

The new gameplay mode will also feature “On-Fire,” a reward for bloodthirsty players who can manage to get kills and stay alive by lighting them On-Fire, granting them cooldown reduction, mana regen, and adaptive stats for a short duration.

Nexus Blitz alpha testing will start in Patch 8.16 and is said to have a four-week open playtest run. Developers also noted that since its an unpolished prototype, players will see lots of reused models and textures, but its gameplay and overall environment is still up for iteration and development.
