Marvel’s Avengers Developer Explains its Gameplay

Playing the marvel's avenger game in your gaming pc

Square Enix finally unveiled Marvel’s Avengers to the public during its E3 2019 press conference. The video game company showed a 25-minute video featuring its gameplay for the five individual Avengers: Captain America, Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Black Widow.

According to the game studio, they want each of these superheroes to play differently from one another. In an interview, Lead Combat Designer Vince Napoli explained that each Avengers hero would have its own gameplay. Each of their mechanics will be different from one another. For example,  since Black Widow isn’t capable of blocking attacks when it comes to defense, she can instead evade them and use her grappling hook to turn the tide of battle.

One of the reasons for the gameplay is to deliver a different feel for each hero. The aim is to make players feel that their chosen character is at the center of their game.

For example, if the player wants to play as Iron Man, then the game needs to give you the thought that “this is an Iron Man game.” Similar to what it will feel like if it’s a full game entirely focused on Iron Man. The idea is that the character you have chosen doesn’t necessarily need to share the game with other characters if he didn’t have to. The same rule applies when you’re choosing other characters.

The same thing applies to the game’s combat system. It is built around the characters. If your chosen hero is Black Widow, an assassin, then her abilities will primarily include stealth. From there, other skills included in her combat system will be built to accommodate and use her stealth to full potential.

Marvel’s Avengers is set to launch on May 15, 2020, for Microsoft Windows gaming PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
