NetherRealm Announces End of Support for Mortal Kombat 11

Mortal Kombat 11

NetherRealm has announced in an official post on Twitter that they are ending the support for Mortal Kombat 11 after more than two years. This means that the DLC (downloadable content) and the addition of new characters will also come to an end. NetherRealm will instead be focusing on their next project.

The Chicago-based studio hasn’t released any details about the new project they are working on. However, the last two known projects they released were Mortal Kombat 11 and the Injustice series, a fighting video game based on a darker version of the DC Comics universe.

As stated, ending the support of Mortal Kombat 11 means that the DLC support for Mortal Kombat’s mainline game has ended. For fans of the game, NetherRealm has been generous with the DLCs they have released for Mortal Kombat 11. The game has received new characters like Shang Tsung and crossover characters from different universes like The Terminator, the Joker, Harley Quinn, John Rambo, Spawn, and RoboCop.

The last DLC released for Mortal Kombat 11 is the Ultimate Add-On Bundle, released on November 18, 2020. This DLC comes in two parts: Kombat Pack 1 and Kombat Pack 2. The Kombat Pack 1 added 6 new playable characters in the game, including Shang Tsung, Nightwolf, Sindel, The Joker, Spawn, and Terminator T-800. It also includes 6 skin packs and 7 exclusive skins. The Kombat 2, on the other hand, added three new playable fighters in the game, including Mileena, Rain, and Rambo.

The Ultimate Add-On Bundle also features the Aftermatch Expansion, which brings a new cinematic story to the game. The story tells of Fire God Liu Kang as the new keeper of time and protector of the Earthrealm, and this expansion also brings three new playable fighters in the game:  Sheeva, Fujin, and RoboCop. The bundle also includes three new skin packs.

Mortal Kombat 11 is a fighting game created with Unreal Engine 3. It is released for Microsoft Windows gaming pc, PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia, and Nintendo Switch. It is also released for next-gen consoles, including PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
