PUBG Corporation has launched a new studio that will be tasked to develop a new and “original narrative game within the PUBG universe.” The new studio is led by Glen Schofield, former vice president of Sledgehammer Games and Visceral Games.
According to PUBG, they have chosen Schofield to build a world-class development team from the ground up that will be responsible for creating this new narrative experience within Player Unknown’s Battleground universe. The studio will be called Striking Distance and will be located in San Ramon, California.
For those of you who didn’t know, Schofield has worked on games like Dead Space, CoD: Modern Warfare 3, CoD: Advanced Warfare, and Call of Duty: World War II. He has also directed a few games including Gex 3D: Enter the Gecko and Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain. He is now excited to use these experiences to help him build a AAA team that can explore new designs and concepts.
Schofield also admitted that he is excited to have the freedom to explore the PUBG universe, and all the possibilities it comes with.
Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds have recently become the fifth best-selling game of all time, boasting of over 50 million copies sold worldwide. It has also started the battle royale trend and remains on top of the genre.
