Overwatch Latest Hero Revealed: Sombra the Hacker

It’s been months since Ana, the Support Sniper was released by Overwatch. And just last week on BlizzCon 2016, they finally revealed the newest hero to add to their roster after Ana. The name Sombra has been making rounds on the internet even before Ana was released. There was even a time when people thought that Sombra and Ana were the same individuals. However, it was later revealed by Blizzard that they are entirely two different people.

Sombra happened to be an excellent infiltrator known for her impressive hacking abilities. And apparently, she’s working for Talon as seen in her animated short movie “Infiltration.”

In the video, Sombra alongside Reaper and Widowmaker infiltrated the Volskaya Industries to assassinate its CEO, Katya Volskaya. Using her abilities, Sombra quickly hacked into their security system and deactivated any security alerts and defensive turrets to allow Reaper and Widowmaker get into position. In the middle of the mission, as Widowmaker was about to shoot Volskaya, the alarm sets off, and Reaper had no choice but to give the mission to Sombra. The hacker used her invisibility to easily enter Katya’s panic room and incapacitate her guards. Sombra then revealed her true intentions of making Katya a “friend” who she can ask for occasional favors by blackmailing her with stolen images and proofs that Katya was dealing with the omnics, which her country deems as enemies. Katya concedes, and Sombra makes her escape, reporting the mission as a failure.

In her origin story, it was revealed that she was one of the many children left orphaned during the aftermath of the Omnic Crisis. She survived by utilizing her gifts with computers, hacking politicians, corporations, and government. However, when she stumbled into the web of a global conspiracy, someone noticed her. And with her security compromised, she was forced to delete all traces of her identity. She later emerged as Sombra, upgraded and determined to find out the truth about the conspiracy. She was then recruited by Talon and is believed to have contributed to its massive cyberattacks against corporations connected to the government.

As stated earlier, Sombra is known for her hacking, which she uses to disrupt her enemies to make them easier to take out. Her EMP provides her the upper hand against multiple foes at once, destroying enemy barriers and shields caught in the blast. She also has the abilities to Translocate and camouflage herself that makes it harder for her enemies to track and put her down.

With her new identity, Sombra sets out in the world, finding the weaknesses of those who are powerful and use it to her advantage. To know more about, check out her origin story video below:
