In 2013, Red Barrels introduced a survival horror game entitled “Outlast” where you can’t fight back your enemies, and the only way to survive is to run and hide. Due to its unique and exhilarating gameplay, it wasn’t long for Red Barrels to figure out that the game deserves to have a sequel. And just last week, Outlast 2 stylized as OUTLASTII was finally released for Microsoft Windows PCs and gaming laptops, XBox One, and PlayStation 4.

Set in the same universe as the first game, Outlast 2 introduces new characters and a new setting. It will let you explore a new journey that will lead you into depths of the human mind and its dark secrets. The game introduces us to the new protagonist, Blake Langermann, an investigative journalist, who works to uncover the mystery behind the murder of a pregnant woman named Jane Doe.
Together with his wife, Lynn Langermann, they went to the Arizona desert to investigate Jane Doe’s case. Unfortunately, the couple gets separated by a helicopter crash. Now, Blake has to look for his wife while following the mysterious murder of Jane Doe. This will eventually lead him to a dilapidated rural area in Supai, located near the Sonoran Desert. Little does he know that the village hides a dark secret. And only Langermann can uncover the stories behind a mysterious sect whose corruption is so profound it can turn one insane.
Gameplay
Similar to the game’s predecessor, the protagonist Langermann is unable to fight and can only defend himself in scripted scenes. However, he can hide, crouch, jump, walk, vault, and climb to escape his enemies. In this game, though, the character has a much more limited stamina meter, which means the player must wisely manage how long they will run or else they will exhaust himself causing their pursuer to catch up.
Langermann has a camera with a night vision feature. But since he’s a cameraman, players can expect a more advanced camera in his possession, allowing them to get a clearer footage and an auto-detection system. It is also equipped with an inventory system, displaying the amount of footage it has recorded.
