This month, Capcom has announced that their title, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard have sold more than 5.1 million units. The record accounts for both the base game, released in January 2017 and the Gold Edition (which included all the game’s DLC), launched at the end of last year.
Resident Evil 7 was a critical hit. Although its unit sales were light at launch, the sales eventually catch up at a relatively steady rate, resulting in its sales announcement. The news came in an official press release posted on Capcom’s official website. It also mentioned the award it received for Best VR Audio at the 2018 Game Audio Network Guild Awards.
A rise on its VR users can also be noted by checking out Residentevil.net. According to the site, Resident Evil 7 now has a total of 3,260,833 players worldwide, with more than 13% of them playing the game in VR, delivering a statistic of 437,154 players. The numbers just prove that Resident Evil 7 is one of the most scariest and thrilling VR game up to date.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is a horror-survival game, which was heralded as a return to the franchise’s survival horror roots. It is the first game in the Resident Evil franchise that uses a first-person perspective. It introduces us to a new character named Ethan Winters, who has no connection to previous characters from the Resident Evil franchise. He also happens to be a civilian with little combat skills, bringing the players to a whole new level of horror-survival experience.
The game follows the story of Ethan as he searches for his missing wife in a derelict plantation owned by the Baker family. Little does he know that the Baker family has become something sinister. To survive, he must solve puzzles, fight enemies, save his wife Mia, and defeat the ultimate evil that hides behind a disguise.
Since its release, the title has won numerous awards. These included Best VR Game from Golden Joystick Awards 2017 and The Game Awards 2017, the Coney Island Dreamland Award for Best Virtual Reality Game from New York Game Awards 2018, and the VR Game of the Year from SXSW Gaming Awards to name a few.
