Rare Limited’s Sea of Thieves has officially sold over 5 million units as of August 1, 2018. The news came from the game’s official XBox website, where the developers announced their new milestone. To date, there are five million “pirates” who already played Sea of Thieves on both XBox and Microsoft Windows PC.

The good news came just in time for the launch of the Cursed Sails update, which will introduce a range of new exciting features for the game. The update will include Skeleton Ships that you will encounter in your sail and the new Brigantine three-player ship. It will also introduce the Alliance feature which enables the player to meet with other players in the world and form an alliance with them, sail the seas and go into adventures together. However, that also leaves your crew open for treachery if one of your allies decided to turn their back on you.

A three-week limited campaign will also roll out along with the update, including new goals and rewards each week. Rare also confirmed that all the features introduced in the campaign will remain in the Sea of Thieves world for all the players to experience its gameplay.

The Cursed Sails update is available for free and without charge to all the players who bought the game across all Xbox One devices and Microsoft Windows 10 gaming PCs. This update is one of the game’s major content update, following The Hungering Deep which was released in May. Next updates include Forsaken Shores in September, and three unnamed updates scheduled to be released after that.

Aside from that, Rare Limited also thanked the players for its thriving community, thanking the content creators for helping the game to attain a massive 300 million views on Youtube and more than 40 million live broadcast hours on Twitch. The developers noted that seeing these great reactions from the players inspire them to better improve the world of Sea of Thieves.

Sea of Thieves, an action-adventure video game, puts the player to the role of a pirate sailing the seas, going into adventures either by himself or as part of a crew made of four players. It was released on March 20, 2018, and has then been gaining players all over the world due to its unique gameplay and experience.
