The Rise of the Tomb Raider was released in 2015. Over the years, numerous documents have leaked about the development of its sequel without any confirmation. But lo and behold, last March 15, Square Enix has finally and officially confirmed the existence of the sequel carrying the title, Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
The announcement was posted by Square Enix on Twitter. The video game company revealed the game’s debut trailer along with its release date on September 14, 2018. Shadow of the Tomb Raider would also be seeing a release on PS4, XBox One, and Microsoft PCs and gaming laptops.
Square Enix Twitter post also confirmed a full reveal on April 27 so fans can finally have a glimpse of the upcoming Tomb Raider game. The company also noted that fans will be able to try the game out early at one of their events by registering at the game’s official website.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider will follow the adventures of Lara Croft as she continues to discover ancient cities, mysterious artifacts, creepy mummies, and skeletons. Gamers have also speculated that Trinity, the mercenary group from the previous game, will come back as the game’s core antagonists. However, this hasn’t been confirmed yet.
One thing’s for sure though. The game will feature the usual combination of platforming, combat, and exploration similar to the Rise of the Tomb Raider.
This news follows after the reboot of the franchise movie adaptation film was released on the big screen, starring the new Lara Croft actress Alicia Vikander.
Other than the Twitter post, no further details were released by Square Enix, so all we can do for now is wait for the game’s full reveal, and enjoy the game’s official trailer.
