Sony Records High PS4 Sales for No Reason?

Sony appears to be thrilled about the incredible PS4 sales in the last year but concerned about how many more they’re going to potentially sell in the future.

“It’s just beyond our imagination. We are so happy. But I for one am a bit nervous because we do not completely understand what’s happening,” said Shuhei Yoshida, president of Sony’s Worldwide Studio, in an interview with Eurogamer.

Since the PS 4 was released, Sony has recorded sales of 10 million PlayStation 4 consoles. Mind you, the PS4 has only been out for about 9 months. It is also worth noting that by scourging the data reports, Yoshida found that many people purchasing the PS4 did not own the PS3.

“As soon as we see a great sales number, our instinct tells us we should be concerned about future sales, right? Are we exhausting all the core gamers? If we sell this number of units, there are no more consumers we can sell to. That’s a really terrifying prospect,” said Yoshida. “So we want to understand who are these consumers who we do not necessarily consider core gamers, who are purchasing PS4 and why they are doing it and what they are doing with PS4, so we can create a bit more of a positive future, rather than saying, wow, we have sold to every single core gamer. So that’s what we are doing.”

After revolutionizing the model of the DualShock 4 controller, Sony has done so many things right with the release of their newest console. Easily eating up the competition, Sony has been leaving Microsoft and Nintendo in the dust in terms of sales.

But it’s not too much of a surprise for players wanting the PS4. I mean, we have been waiting for another console form of Kingdom Hearts for a couple years now and with Sony skipping an installment for the PS3, it would explain why several consumers are so engulfed in re-living the nostalgia for the upcoming game in the 2015. This would explain why several gamers skipped out on the PS3 and, much like how Pokemon is to Nintendo, people will buy a PS4 console just to play Kingdom Hearts.

However, it is important to keep in mind that Kingdom Hearts will be released for the Xbox 1 as well, putting a slight hole in the theory, but those are just my thoughts. What do you guys think is happening with Sony? Are they going to continue dominating the sales market or is this a temporary trend? And how excited are you guys for Kingdom Hearts 3 and what console will you be playing that on? Let us know in the comments down below.
