Ubisoft announced that two new VR games are currently being developed based on Splinter Cell and Assassins Creed. The announcement came via a Facebook Connect Event, the new name for the annual Oculus VR showcase.
Before the announcement, Ubisoft was rumored that it is developing two new VR games based on its popular stealth franchises. However, it wasn’t until now that Ubisoft finally confirms that the two games that were rumored were Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed. The titles were confirmed by Ubisoft Red Storm Vice President Elizabeth Loverso, who announced the news on Facebook’s virtual stage to introduce the made-for-VR titles.
The company also talked about their early history with VR, including developing titles such as the Star Trek Bridge Crew. Ubisoft also confirmed that their upcoming titles based on Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed will be developed from the ground up. They will also be exclusive for the Oculus VR platform alone. This means you can either play the game via PS4 / PS5 or Microsoft gaming PC.
According to the company, the Ubisoft Red Storm division, which focused on the Tom Clancy games, will lead the development for both Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed VR. There will also be additional support from divisions, including Ubisoft Dusseldorf, Ubisoft Reflections, and Ubisoft Mumbai.
Aside from this news, there are other details such as the games’ release dates or gameplay.
Splinter Cell is an award-winning shooter stealth video game that was released in 2002. It features the protagonist Sam Fisher as a highly trained agent of a black-ops subdivision with the NSA, also known as The Third Echelon.
Assassin’s Creed, on the other hand, is an action-adventure video game that was first introduced in 2007. The series has long-revolved around real-world events that follow the centuries-old conflict between the Assassins and the Templars.
