The Best Video Game Remakes

There is always room for improvement. And that saying definitely applies to video games as well. Remakes and remastered versions have always been a trend, giving players all over the world the chance to experience their favorite game in a whole new level. So today, we’re naming our five best video game remakes of all time.

Resident Evil

The original Resident Evil was first released in 1996. It was so popular, it became Capcom’s best-selling debut game, garnering sales of over 8.5 million copies worldwide.  Following the story of Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, as they investigate the outskirts of Raccoon City, the game offered us one of the best classic zombie shooting game.

Six years after, GameCube decided to remake Resident Evil, turning its pixelated graphics and awkward FMV sequences into a real deal. Aside from its improved visuals and sound,  new gameplay elements, environments, and story details were also added.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary

Tomb Raider was released in 1996 for Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and MS-Dos, with the story following the adventures of Lara Croft. The game was so successful, it spawned one of the largest franchise in the world and a total of nine other entries. And it didn’t stop there, in 2007, a full remake/reimagining of original Tomb Raider video game was released in the market.

Tomb Raider: Anniversary features an improved version of Lara Croft in familiar yet remodeled environments from the original video game. The game also comes with new animations and interactions, bringing a more complete gaming experience to the fans.

Halo Wars: Definitive Edition

Halo Wars is the famous RTS game set in the science fiction world of the Halo Series. It was first released in 2009 for XBox One consoles. Being one of Microsoft’s most popular game, the company and the game’s developer Ensemble Studios decided to release a remastered version titled Halo Wars: Definite Edition. The best part is that it was also released for Microsoft Windows 10 gaming PCs.

Halo Wars: Definite Edition included improved graphics, new achievements, and all the DLC created for the landmark game.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Special Edition

Coming from Bethesda’s most popular series, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide. It’s known for its open world features that most of Bethesda’s games are known for, allowing players to travel anywhere in the game world at any time they want, giving them the freedom to delay or ignore the storyline for as long as they want.

Five years after its release, a Special Edition was released for Microsoft Windows, XBox One, and PlayStation 4. It comes with all new features such as remastered art and effects, volumetric god rays, screen-space reflections, dynamic depth of field, and more. It also introduces new quests, environments, armor, weapons, and characters.

Grand Theft Auto 5

Grand Theft Auto 5 was released in 2013, following the story of three criminals in the fictional state of San Andreas. The game was critically acclaimed for its open world design and storytelling. For many, the game was a masterpiece, but that was until a remastered version of the game was released in the market.

The remastered GTA 5 includes updated visuals, 165 new songs to add to its amazing soundtrack, new gameplay options, and a smoother performance.
