With the overgrowing competition in MOBA scene, gamers now have a wide variety of MOBA games. Two of the most popular MOBA games these days are League of Legends developed by RIOT Gams and DOTA 2, the sequel of DOTA developed by Valve Corporation. Little do gamers know that there are still many MOBA games out there in the market that offers astound graphics and amazing gameplay. That’s why here is our top 10 list of the best MOBA games this year.
League of Legends
League of Legends (LoL) is a MOBA, real-time strategy video game developed and published by Riot Games. It was launched in the year 2009, and was created by a developer that originally played a huge role in creating the infamous mod DOTA from Warcraft 3. As of now, League of Legends has, on average, 25 million users per day. League of Legends is a MUST play game you should try now on your gaming PC.
Dota 2
Dota 2 is the sequel of the original game mod DotA that was released as a map created by Icefrog. It was a huge hit with gamers and it started to be played on a professional level. Dota 2 is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game in a three-dimensional environment, presented from an oblique high-angle perspective.
With even better graphics and game play than the prequel, Dota 2 is a game with a fan following of millions. Continuous updates and patches allow the game to hold on to its competitive edge and excitement.
SMITE
Smite is a third person MOBA developed for XBOX one and Microsoft platforms. MOBA allows its players to choose a mythological god to fight. This game gives a unique playing experience since a player can only view what is in front of them, so they can never see what’s behind them which gives the enemy an opportunity to gank behind.
Heroes of Newerth
The original idea of Heroes of Newerth (HoN) was inspired from Warcraft 3’s custom map DotA which is evident from the similarities of many heroes.
In Heroes of Newerth two teams of up to five players each take on the role of special Hero units and with AI-controlled armies, each team must set out to destroy the other team’s base. It gives players an incredibly deep, tactical team-based experience.
Heroes of the Storm
Heroes of the Storm is a fast-paced MOBA from Blizzard Entertainment which pits heroes from each of the studio’s iconic universes against each other in several objective oriented maps. Having better game play and graphics than the original DotA, HON was able to attract a lot of players even in its beta stage. Heroes of Newerth also has a hero pool of 123 characters to choose from with the ultimate goal being the destruction if the World Tree or the Hellbourne.
AirMech
AirMech or more commonly AM is a MOBA game based on a futuristic storyline. Developed by Carbon Games, AirMech entered the beta stage in August 2014. It has a similar DotA-style gameplay where players control a transforming mech, that can take flight at a moment’s notice in this strategy based game. Combat on the ground or switch to air to fly around and pick up units to transport.
Strife
Developed through Kodiak Engine, same as that of Heroes of Newerth, Strife is the second MOBA game by S2 Games. The aim of creating Strife was offering a more casual game play for gamers. The main vein of Strife’s influence is reducing player toxicity, with methods that make support roles more clear and simple. Players are also given the option of collecting pets that evolve, which have their own list of abilities, and simultaneously grant passive buffs for their hero.
Infinite Crisis
A game that even though is in its beta stage has garnered a massive fan following. The champions in this MOBA game are no one but the heroes from DC Comic itself. Players will choose Champions from a roster including both Heroes and Villains, with variants like Gaslight Catwoman or Nightmare Batman, in addition to a multitude of DC classics. During matches players will be able to interact with the map itself, changing combat by throwing cars at other champions, raining meteors down onto areas, or by creating channels through locations to assist your teammates and hinder your opponents.
Overwatch
The first FPS MOBA game of its class, Overwatch is an upcoming title from Blizzard and is expected to enter the BETA stage very soon. The game play of Overwatch consists of two teams having a maximum of six players. Overwatch allows players to select one character from several, with each character having a unique class and set of abilities. The roles in Overwatch are divided into four categories: Offensive, Defensive, Support and Tanks, with each of them having their own perks and weaknesses.
Bloodline
Bloodline Champions is a free 3D arena-based PvP MMO game which is being compared to Defense of the Ancients and World of Warcraft Arena. I is a player vs. player arena game where players can engage in short, intense battles of up to ten players divided into two teams.
