With Mortal Kombat being out in the market for two weeks now, we couldn’t help but join in the hype and list down the most powerful fighters in the franchise.

Here’s our list of the top five strongest characters in the Mortal Kombat series:

Top 1 – Raiden

I bet no one will disagree that Raiden has, in fact, proven his massive strength and power from time to time. He is the eternal god of Thunder, a deity from the heavens tasked to be the protector of the Earthrealm, and is arguably one of the most powerful characters in the Mortal Kombat series. Although Raiden would choose to watch and just guide Earth’s warriors from a distance, we know that when all else fails, he’s ready to take down anyone who dares to challenge him. Strong fighters like Liu Kang, Quan Chi, Motaro, and Shang Chung have been defeated by Raiden.

And who would in their right mind even dare Raiden, after he sent a severed head of Shinnok to warn anyone against attacking Earthrealm.

Top 2 – Liu Kang

Liu Kang was introduced as an undead ninja, trying to take over the Earthrealm for the past few games. However, he was more than that during the prime of his time. While still alive, Liu Kang has proven to be the best champion of Earthrealm. He has defeated the fighters like the monster Goro, Shang Tsung, Shao Kahn, and even the deity Shinnok.

Liu Kang was considered one of the strongest threats from Earthrealm, that Quan Chi and Shang Tsung had no choice but to join forces to kill him in Deadly Alliance.

Top 3 – Shao Kahn

Shao Kahn has been a long time villain and the emperor of the Outworld, harnessing the power to create frightening entities like Mileena and Ermac. He was also the one responsible for resurrecting Sindel and controlling powerful fighters like Shang Tsung and Goro.

If Raiden weren’t able to alter time and warn his past self, Shao Kahn would have become the ruler at the end of the world. This was revealed in Armageddon.

Top 4 – Goro

Goro was one of the first monsters in the series and is still considered the most frightening one. When the Outworld empire needed ten straight victories in the Mortal Kombat tournaments so Shao Kahn can take over the Earthrealm, Goro had managed to win nine out of them.

Since Mortal Kombat 1, he was one of the most difficult fighters to defeat, thanks to his incredible strength that allows him to easily tear other fighters apart. He was even successful in killing Kung Lao.

Top 5 – Scorpion

Scorpion is perhaps the most iconic character in the Mortal Kombat series aside from Liu Kang and Raiden. Although at first glance, most people may mistake him as an ordinary ninja — he’s not. Scorpion has been long dead and has the power over hellfire that allows him to enhance his movements depending on how enraged he is.

Scorpion is not only one of the strongest characters in the series but is also considered to be the most famous fighter in-game.
