Sometimes the best love stories aren’t only found in books, movies, or TV series. Sometimes they happen to be in video games too — tales of devotion, trust, happiness, and tragedy. Through the years, we’ve seen video games with romantic storylines. And once in a while, we’d see a pair of lovebirds that will make us wish for romance too — aside from the one you have with your gaming PC.
So for this Valentine’s Day, we created a list of the best video game couples that will make you believe in love:
Mario and Princess Peach
Super Mario
Mario and Princess Peach is the original video game power couple. The Italian plumber has been saving Princess of Mushroom Kingdom from being repeatedly kidnaped and attacked by the arch-villain Bowser time after time. Their relationship has since been a part of almost every Mario spin-off games that were released. What I love about this two is how Mario would drop everything to help Princess Peach every time she’s in trouble, even if it means getting just a kiss on the cheek for all his heroic efforts.
Link and Zelda
Legend of Zelda
Another power couple in the list is Nintendo’s Link and Zelda. Their love story has been retold in every game with different characters in different worlds. But what doesn’t change is Link’s feelings and devotion for Zelda. With all the game changes, alternate storylines, and new character designs that have happened for more than two decades, their love remained constant. And I think that’s the most beautiful thing about this couple.
Ico and Yorda

Love truly understands all languages, and one proof of that is Ico and Yorda’s love story. Although they speak different languages, the two had face impossible odds to escape an evil queen’s fortress. But the best thing about their story is that it isn’t your typical “boy meets girl, and they fall in love,” instead it showed us a love story that spawns out of trust and protection. By the end of the game, you’ll see clearly how each one would die for the other.
Tidus and Yuna
Final Fantasy X
Regardless its sequel, Final Fantasy X has introduced us to one of the best love stories of all time: the tragic story of Yuna and her Tidus. What starts as a story of a young lad finding his way home with the help of a kind girl turns to a wonderful story of love and devotion and an ending that will surely leave you in tears. It is not just love story but a tale of sacrifice. Whatever you think about Yuna and Tidus, their story’s ending will surely leave a mark.
Wander and Mono
Shadow of Colossus
Some of the best love stories don’t have a happy ending, Wander, and Mono’s story is one of them. Wander is a young lad who made a pact with a powerful entity named Dormin to bring the lover Mono back to life. In exchange for that, Dormin asked him to kill 16 giant monsters. Each kill brings Mono back to life, but changes Wander into something terrible. But still, he never stops. In the end, he died so Mono can live. Wander is a real Greek hero complete with the tragic ending.
