Here’s What You Need to Run the Oculus Rift VR Gear on your Laptop
As of today, VR technology is the pinnacle of future gaming, bringing gamers a new kind of gaming experience with its 3D virtual graphics. The Oculus Rift VR system runs by connecting its headgear to a high-performance PC which needs to meet the minimum specifications required by the Rift developers. VR enthusiasts knows that one needs a beefy rig to completely enjoy the VR gear in all its glory.
Laptop users shouldn’t get all depressed because a beefy rig doesn’t necessarily mean you need a glorious high-performance gaming PC to run the VR system. Although it may not be the best choice for the VR system, a gaming laptop that comes with high specs can meet with the VR specifications needed to run the gear.
According to a blog post published by Oculus, here are the recommended specifications that your system needs to experience the Oculus Rift VR to its fullest:
● NVIDIA GTX 970 / AMD 290 equivalent or greater
● Intel i5-4590 equivalent or greater
● 8GB+ RAM
● Compatible HDMI 1.3 video output
● 2x USB 3.0 ports
● Windows 7 SP1 or newer
If you assessed these requirements, the latest laptops in the market can easily meet or pass these requirements by having an 8GB+ RAM and a Windows 7 or higher operating system. When it comes to its graphics card, there are several gaming laptops in the market with NVIDIA GTX 970M, the mobile version of the GTX 970. Your laptop should have at least two USB 3.0 ports and a DVI-D or HDMI graphics output.
Perhaps, the only requirement that a laptop can’t meet is the VR’s required processor. You see, Intel i5-4590 is specifically made for PCs. However, according to RiftInfo.com, you can get a mobile version of Intel i5-4590 currently at a high price.
To tell the truth, laptops are not the best system to run the Rift especially if you want to get the most out of your VR gear. However, the Oculus Rift CV1 to be release next year may actually have the capability to run smoothly on a portable laptop. So for now, if you want to get the full Rift experience then you have to wait for CV1 to be introduced in the market.
