A new World of Warcraft expansion is coming in 2020. Shadowlands was announced by Blizzard during the Blizzcon 2019 and was teased with a cinematic trailer.
In the trailer, Sylvanas Windrunner is battling the current Lich King, Bolvar Fordragon. As Sylvanas beats Bolvar, she removes the Helm of Domination from his head and breaks it, leaving the Shadowlands without a ruler for the first time.
Shadowlands is WoW’s version of the afterlife, and with its expansion comes five new zones. These include the fields of Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald, Revendreth, and Maw.

According to the developers, the Shadowlands expansion will introduce players to the consequences of Sylvanas breaking the veil between the afterlife and Azeroth.
With the world of the dead open to mortals, old characters will return in the story, including Uther the Lightbringer and Kael’thas the Sunstrider. The expansion will also introduce new characters such as the Covenants, the four characters who rule the different zones present in the Shadowlands. Players can forge a bond with one of the four characters to gain new abilities.
Shadowlands also features the new Tower of the Damned, which is an ever-changing dungeon that is designed for one to five players. A new leveling system will also be introduced in the expansion. Players who are currently at their max level can start at level 50 and progress towards level 60.
World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will be released for Microsoft Windows gaming PC and macOS desktops.
