Gamers who’ve been enjoying the newest game in the X series, X4: Foundations, are very excited about the next be chapter in the franchise. Titled: X4: Cradle of Humanity, this huge expansion will be coming to PC some time in Q4 of 2020.

X4: Cradle of Humanity will be the second major expansion nearly six months after the first expansion debuted back in March, X4: Split Vendetta. Not surprisingly, X4: Cradle of Humanity will return the series back to Earth, which will significantly broaden the size of the game’s universe with new sectors to explore.

We’ll not only be able to check out our solar system (and beyond) but we’ll also see the introduction of Terran and pirate factions, along with their economies, space stations, spaceships, and weapons and equipment. Not only that, but the expansion’s new game starts will introduce the identity and political stance of the new factions, and be given alternative perspectives on existing narrative developments within the base game.

As far as the story aspects go, it’s important to mention that the X4: Cradle of Humanity expansion will explain what has happened to Earth in the decades since the jump gates shut down. There will also be a pirate faction that makes a dramatic comeback appearance, so veterans of the X series should be pretty thrilled about that.

But that’s not all that developer Egosoft has up their sleve. They’ve also announced that X4: Cradle of Humanity will be accompanied by their biggest free update for X4: Foundations yet.

Dubbed Update 4.0, this update will be made available to all owners of X4: Foundations and will further enhance the base game in a number of fundamental ways, including a variety of new gameplay features such as terraforming and a wide array of visual improvements like volumetric fog.

Here are some of the features announced to be included in this new expansion:

  • Big expansion of the X4: Foundations universe with new sectors
  • Return of Terran factions with economy, ships, weapons and stations
  • Thrilling new story missions and adventures to experience
  • New game-starts that allow new perspectives on the X4: Foundations story
  • Introducing a new terraforming gameplay feature, evolving the endgame
  • Visual improvements such as volumetric fog, making the X universe look better than ever

Details of this new expansion (and the new 4.0 update) will be disclosed at a later date. Until then, you can view the new trailer above and wishlist X4: Cradle of Life on Steam to learn more about the game’s development and eventual Q4 2020 release.

X4: Foundations has some pretty good looking graphics that make its science fiction gameplay truly shine. However, you want to have a pretty beefy gaming PC or gaming laptop in order to play it at a decent framerate. So, you may just want to invest in a decent gaming rig:
